Maine’s
Marine Invasion: What is invading Maine’s coastal waters?
Why are Maine’s marine managers and ocean
industries concerned about marine plants, animals, and diseases that have come
to Maine from other regions? What problems are they causing? And what’s likely
to be heading our way in the future? Maine’s Marine Invasion, a free
publication about marine invasive species in the state of Maine, addresses some
of these questions. Maine’s Marine Invasion includes information on
marine species that have been introduced to Maine, the challenges these species
pose, and the pathways by which they arrive and spread. Also outlined are steps
that citizens can take to minimize the risk of introducing new species into
Maine's coastal waters and a description of actions being taken currently at
state and regional levels. Maine's Marine Invasion was developed by the Maine
Sea Grant College Program in collaboration with the Maine Marine Invasive
Species Working Group and with financial support from the Casco Bay Estuary
Project. For copies of this publication, please call (207) 581-1435 or visit http://www.seagrant.umaine.edu/documents/pdf/MMI05.pdf.
